Miniature red pottery seed jar by Art Cody, known as Haungooah, Kiowa Sioux of Oklahoma. He shares the name Haungooah with his grandfather, a legendary 19th century Army Scout and ledger artist.
Art Cody married Santa Clara Pueblo Indian Martha Suazo in the late 1960s and moved to the Pueblo where they collaborated on tiny pottery, she made them and he carved them. They began winning prizes with their very first miniatures.
Unfortunately they both died at young ages, she of an illness, he in a car wreck, in the mid-1980s.
This round seed pot is 2" tall by 2 1/8" diameter and is carved with a Mimbres style man standing over a half Sun. Highlighted with yellow and blue mineral colors.Signed AH, this dates from Haungooah's later period in the 1980s.
