Sweet little pottery effigy figure with two faces, Maricopa Indian from Arizona. Deep red slip is stone burnished then painted with mesquite sap, wood fired outdoors, just as they have for centuries. The pottery figure stands 3 3/4" tall and is 2 1/2" across the handle. Wearing abalone shell earrings, we can tell by the facial tatoos that one face is female and the other is male. Although unsigned, my best guess is this is a Mabel Sunn piece from 1950-1970. Excellent condition. Buyer pays $12.00 for shipping and insurance. |
