Margaret b. 1937, and Luther Gutierrez d. 1987, of Santa Clara Pueblo were a brother and sister team of potters who made animalitos with multi-colored clay slips. Their parents were the famed artisans Lela d. 1969, and Van Gutierrez d. 1956, who created a pottery style different than the others at the Santa Clara Pueblo. They searched all over the Southwest for clays that would fire to many different colors. This is a large sized pottery raccoon, 4" tall by 4" long, made by Margaret and painted by Luther, circa 1970. Note the colors of gold, green, red, gray and white. It seems to be holding a fish. Buyer pays $12.00 for shipping. Original price $350.00. |
