Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery Engagement Basket
Vintage lustrous black pottery Engagement Basket by Legoria Tafoya of Santa Clara Pueblo. Legoria Tafoya, sister of the multi-talented Pablita Velarde and aunt to Helen Hardin, mother of Celes with whom she collaborated in her later years, was born in 1911 and passed on in 1984.

Winning her first awards in 1940 she had a long and distinguished pottery making career. The beauty of her burnished surface is breathtaking as well as the graceful shapes she creates.

This rarely made double bowl with braided handle is spectacular in its graceful shape.

Signed. A gift from Legoria, in April of 1967. She was going to destroy this piece and use the shards for temper, due to some minor blistering of the surface during firing.

Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping and insurance.
