White slipped Hopi pottery jar by Emogene Lomakema, First Prize winner at the Museum of Northern Arizona Hopi Show 1975. Beautifully hand crafted with coils of native clay, the white slip is perfectly burnished inside and out, as is the tight fitting lid. Painted with bee plant and orange mineral paints then pit fired, no fire clouds. Dimensions are 9" tall by 9 1/4" diameter, almost a perfect globe. Very fine original condition. This lovely Hopi jar is unsigned, which is unusual for an entered piece, but was purchased by our collector at the Museum Fair that day, May 16, 1975. We aren't sure if Emogene is a daughter of Sadie Adams, sister of Lorna, but that is what we were told. Anyway, this old Pueblo pottery jar stands on its own merits! Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping and insurance. |
