Gunmetal Black Pottery Jar by Tony Da
A rare treasure, this two tone pottery jar by the renowned grand-son of Maria, Tony Da, b,1940-d.2008.

Beautifully hand formed with coils of native clay, stone burnished to a lustrous shine, then sgrafitto carved with Avanyu, Guardian of the spring.

Pit fired by his father, Popovi Da who was the master of gunmetal firing! After the second fire to create the black, neck is reheated to burn out the black, which leaves the sienna color. Very labor intensive!

The sensuous roundness of the jar attests to Tony's skill as a potter, while the sgrafitto carving is architectural as we see in his paintings.

Jar is 7" tall by 6 7/8" diameter.

Signed, perfect original condition, circa 1968-69.

This and the following Tony Da jar are from an Estate Collection, were purchased at the pueblo at the same time.

Buyer pays $25.00 for shipping and insurance.
