Large Black Pottery Plate Juan Cruz Roybal
Mimbres style mountain lions pause above the swirl of water on this 15 1/4" diameter plate by San Ildefonso Pueblo Indian artist Juan Cruz Roybal, d.1990. Known for his wonderful painting of his wife Tonita's pottery, Juan continued his artistry after her passing in 1945. This wonderful plate appears to be made circa 1950-75.

Traditionally hand built with coils of native clay, stone burnished and reverse slip painted, then pit fired to black.

It is hard to imagine how large and impressive this piece of art is!

Fine original condition with minor surface wear, no cracks, chips or repairs.

Buyer pays $40.oo for packing, shipping and insurance.
