Sterling silver cuff bracelet by the Master Hopi Indian jeweler, Charles Loloma. Loloma redefined what Indian jewelry was all about, back in the 1960s. He felt free to explore techniques of fine jewelers and played with a new range of stones and colors. He was told that his jewelry wasn't Indian enough to enter into Tribal art competitions. Hand constructed of silver sheet, set with red coral, turquoise, ironwood and spondylus shell, accented with lapis and a gold separator bar. Created in the 1970s before the varied height style of stone setting that he later made famous. The one inch wide cuff is set with the stones measuring 5/8" at the center to 1/2" at the ends. The interior is 5 3/4" end to end plus the one inch gap. Since the size can not be adjusted, one could line the inside with mole skin to take up some room. This lovely example of the art of Charles Loloma is from a local collector who used to host jewelry parties in her home for Charles in the late 1970s. Signed as pictured. Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping and insurance. |
