Navajo Indian rug in miniature by Rose Myer of Lower Greasewood. Rose is well known for her framed charts showing the plants used to make dyes. Included in each one is a tiny weaving on a loom. so it was natural for Rose to make miniature tapestries for us.

The Navajo Indian weavers were encouraged to experiment with native plants and to document the recipes during the 1930s and 40s by Sally and Bill Lippincott at the Chinle Trading Post. One of the Navajo ladies was Mabel Burnside Myers, daughter of famed silversmith John Burnside. As a way to preserve the samples of plant colors, she created a dye chart with plant dyed wool connecting the plants to a small weaving loom and rug sample, under framed glass. ... Click for details
