The Navajo Indian weavers were encouraged to experiment with native plant dyes and to document the recipes during the 1930s and 40s by Sally and Bill Lippincott at the Chinle Trading Post. One of the Navajo ladies was Mabel Burnside Myers, daughter of famed silversmith John Burnside. As a way to preserve the samples of plant colors, she created a dye chart with plant dyed wool connecting the plants to a small weaving loom and rug sample, under framed glass. ... Click for details
