The Zapotecs are descendants of the Maya Indians, who were weaving with native cotton and fibers when Cortez arrived with sheep. They are famous for their pretty and functional wool textiles. The Zapotec weavers use a European loom, handspun native wool and aniline and vegetal dyes.

Navajo Indian rug in miniature by Rose Myer of Lower Greasewood. Rose is well known for her framed charts showing the plants used to make dyes. Included in each one is a tiny weaving on a loom. so it was natural for Rose to make miniature tapestries for us.
