Hopi Indian Coiled Mudhead Basket   $450.004

Finely woven coiled basketry plaque by Alicia Adams of Shungopovi, Second Mesa. The Koyemsi, Mudhead Kachina is a favorite of Hopi basket weavers and Alicia has given it lots of fine detail.

9 1/2" diameter. Circa 2000. Like new condition.

Koyemsi, the Mudhead Kachina, dances on this small coiled basketry tray from Second Mesa. He holds a rattle and an eagle feather and is surrounded by a rain band.

This woven tray is 6 1/2" diameter and has it's hanger woven on the back. Tightly coiled yucca over a bundle of grass foundation, the dyes are sunflower seeds for black, Mormon tea for red, natural white and yellow.... Click for details

A coiled basket woven at Second Mesa is dyed with sunflower seeds for the black and Mormon tea for the red.

A small basket like this is given to the youngest Hopi Indian girls by the Kachinas.
